Super Bowl 58 Matchup Is Set As Kansas City Chiefs Meet San Francisco 49ers in Las Vegas

750 The Game Staff

After a wild day of action in the AFC and NFC Championship Games, we have our matchup for Super Bowl 58 in Las Vegas, Nev. on Feb. 11th.

In a rematch of Super Bowl 54 in Miami, Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs will once again face the San Francisco 49ers with the Lombardi Trophy on the line.

Mahomes helped get the Chiefs to an early lead in the AFC Championship Game in Baltimore, and the Kansas City defense consistently kept the host Ravens from getting traction in a 17-10 win on the road to reach yet another Super Bowl. It is the fourth Super Bowl trip in five seasons for the Chiefs, who become just the third team in history to accomplish that, joining the Buffalo Bills (4 straight appearances in the Super Bowl from the 1990-93 seasons) and New England Patriots (2014, 2016-18).

Christian McCaffrey and the San Francisco 49ers are back in the Super Bowl for a second time in five seasons — their last trip was a 31-20 defeat to these same Chiefs in Hard Rock Stadium in South Florida. The Niners led 20-10 with 12 minutes left in regulation, and possessed the football, only to see Mahomes and the Chiefs come roaring back with three consecutive touchdowns to rip out the victory and earn Mahomes his first of three career Lombardi Trophies.

The 49ers are coming off a historic comeback, erasing a 24-7 halftime deficit to the Detroit Lions en route to a 34-31 victory. It was San Francisco’s third straight NFC title game appearance and fourth overall under head coach Kyle Shanahan, who is headed to his second Super Bowl appearance with the franchise that has won six Super Bowls, albeit not since Steve Young accomplished it in the 1994 season.

DraftKings opened the betting line for Super Bowl 58 with the 49ers as 2.5-pt favorites and a total at 48, but the site already has shifted odds. As of late Monday morning, the 49ers are down to a 1-pt favorite over the Chiefs with a total ticking down a hair to 47.5.
