Ownership Is Trail Blazers Biggest Offseason Question

By STEVEN VAUGHAN, 750 THE GAME

A very important offseason is on the horizon for the Portland Trail Blazers.

While the tank was not fun, it could turn out to be worth it, especially if it results in the number-one overall pick.

That said, John Canzano thinks ownership, not lottery position, is the most important offseason question for the franchise.

“I’m wondering (more) about Jody Allen this offseason,” Canzano said on 750 The Game on Friday. “The Blazers have to get better. But I don’t think they can get fully better with uncertainty around ownership. Uncertainty around what’s going to happen in the next couple of years. I’ve been on the same refrain for some time. (Allen) must sell this team. Must sell this team. I’ve been saying it over and over.”

Canzano says Allen needs to speak up and give fans a clear expectation for the future.

“I would like to hear Jody Allen go public. Come on the show, let’s talk about it. What are the plans for the franchise? Do you truly love it? Do you want to keep it? What does your brother’s trust say? Are you supposed to liquidate the trust as we all believe? What is the plan for this franchise as city officials are re-negotiating the extension of the Blazers’ lease. Who is going to own this team and what’s the plan? I would love to hear Jody Allen do a post-season interview.”
