Oregon Ducks LB Jestin Jacobs Named To Butkus Award Watch List

By 750 The Game Staff

Oregon Ducks inside linebacker Jestin Jacobs, a transfer from Iowa, has been named to the preseason watch list for the Butkus Award given to the country’s best linebacker.

Jacobs is one of 51 players to make the preseason watch list and one of six Pac-12 linebackers. Semifinalists will emerge before Oct. 30th, finalists by Nov. 20th, and the award winner announced on or before Dec. 6th.

The former four-star recruit out of Ohio, Jacobs spent four years at the University of Iowa, including a redshirt in 2019 and an injury-shortened 2022 season that limited him to two games. In 2021, Jacobs had a career-high 53 total tackles (33 solo) with an interception and a forced fumble.

Jacobs becomes the fourth member of the Oregon defense to make a preseason award watch list, joining defensive end Brandon Dorlus and safety Evan Williams for the Nagurski Trophy (country’s best defensive player) and cornerback Trikweze Bridges for the Wuerffel Trophy (best exemplary community service with academic and athletic achievement).

The Ducks open their final season in the Pac-12 Conference on Sept. 2nd hosting Portland State.
