Why Bo Nix Should Get A Chance To Be A Starting QB In The NFL

By 750 THE GAME STAFF

Bo Nix has had one of the wildest careers in college football history. From being a true freshman at Auburn and beating Oregon in his first start all the way to being in New York as a Heisman Trophy finalist representing the Ducks. It has been a ride.

The next chapter is the NFL where Nix’s draft stock is all over the board. Some have him as a day three pick. Others have him in the teens of the first round.

John Canzano (3-6 p.m.) thought during the year that Nix may not be a NFL caliber quarterback. But after watching the whole season play out and watching the NFL playoffs, Canzano thinks there’s a quarterback that reminded him a lot of Bo Nix.

“I’m watching Brock Purdy, and I got to be honest. I watch him in the NFC Championship game and it was the first time I kind of saw it. I kind of think that Brock Purdy’s success in the NFL is beneficial to a guy like Bo Nix at Oregon,” Canzano said on 750 The Game.

Purdy was the last pick in the 2022 draft and Nix could be a first round pick. That is a huge difference, but Canzano thinks if a team can grab Nix in the second or third round, it may be a huge steal for a team searching for a quarterback.

“Brock Purdy started 40-plus games at Iowa State,” said Canzano. “Got a lot of experience. Got to the NFL. Was thrown into the fire as a rookie. Was the last pick in the draft and did alright. Bo Nix has got 60 starts. Has a little mobility. Very accurate like Purdy is. I kind of think Bo Nix might be a nice Denver Bronco. I could see him in that Sean Payton offense. You could do a lot worse than using your early draft picks to grab offensive linemen, defensive tackles, other positional needs, and then grab Bo Nix — not in the first round.”

Canzano says Nix may not be a fit on any team — it has to be the right team in the right system.

“Bo Nix is 6’2″, 215,” said Canzano. “Like he’s just big enough. He’s not Justin Herbert. He’s not Josh Allen. But is he Brock Purdy? I think Bo Nix in the right system would be a smashing success. When it doesn’t have to be all about him. That’s a scenario you want to be in if you’re Bo Nix.”
