The winning streak is three in a row. That’s exactly what the Timbers are at after Wednesday night’s win over San Jose 2-1 from Providence Park. The three straight wins and additional nine points now have the Timbers firmly in the playoff race.

The Timbers defeated San Jose 2-1 on Wednesday night. The Timbers scored a goal in stoppage time on the final kick of the first half by Cristhian Paredes. It gave the Timbers all the momentum going into the locker room.

The Timbers came out strong in the second half when Evander scored a goal in the 58th minute to give the Timbers a 2-0 lead. San Jose got one right back a minute later by Matthew Hoppe.

Tempers flared at the end of the match when San Jose was not happy with the officiating. But it didn’t matter. Portland secured a 2-1 victory.

After Giovanni Savarese was fired on August 22nd it was thought the Timbers season was over. Turns out, it was far from it, and interim manager Miles Joseph has spurred the team to peak when they needed it most.

Portland now is in 8th place in the Western Conference and looking to rise as the regular season wraps up.
The Timbers host last-place Colorado Rapids on Saturday night at Providence Park. Pregame coverage starts at 6:30 p.m. and kickoff at 7:30 p.m. on 750 The Game and streaming for free at 750TheGame.com.
