Timbers Show Heart, But Fall to FC Dallas 2-1
It was more of an inspired effort tonight from the Timbers, but the results stayed the same as they fell to FC Dallas 2-1. Portland came out strong but a bad break on defense led to an easy goal for 19 year old Jesus Ferreira in the 9th minute.
The 2nd half was full of opportunities for the Timbers as they had four shots on goal in the first 15 minutes of the half. However, FC Dallas goalkeeper, Jesse Rodriguez kept the Timbers off the board with a couple great saves. In the 60th minute, the Timbers conceded a penalty kick that Reto Ziegler converted for FC Dallas to make it 2-0. But instead of folding it in like the past couple weeks, Portland fought their way back into the game with a 67th minute goal from a header by Cristhian Paredes.
The last 20 minutes of the match were full of controversy. In the 75th minute Jeremy Ebobisse looked to be fouled on a header attempt, but it was never looked at to the dismay of the guys calling the game in the studio. In stoppage time, a shot by Larrys Mabiala looked to be stopped by a hand ball from a FC Dallas defender. It was reviewed by VAR and it looked to be a clear handball as the defenders arm was in an obvious unnatural position. However, VAR didn’t agree and the match was basically over after that.
It doesn’t get any easier for Portland as they still have 7 more matches on this extended road trip to start the season. They travel to Ohio to take on old coach Caleb Porter and Columbus Crew next Saturday. You can listen to that match right here on 102.9/750 The Game.
