Timbers Rally Against San Jose, Win 2-1

The Portland Timbers came back from behind to earn an impressive victory at Providence Park against San Jose on Saturday, 2-1.

Unbeaten in the last six going into this one, the Timbers fell into some trouble in the first half. San Jose’s Benji Kikanovic found the back of the net in the 42′ and the Timbers stared at a 1-0 lead going into halftime.

Portland found new life in the second half. Jaroslaw Niezgoda scored off of a deflection in the 53′ to equalize. 18 minutes later, Dairon Asprilla connected on a header for the go-ahead goal.

After holding on for 19 more minutes plus 7 minutes of stoppage time, the Timbers managed to hold onto three points.

Portland has increased its unbeaten streak to 7 straight; the team is 4-0-3 since the international break. Additionally, San Jose has still never won at Providence Park in 16 tries.

The Timbers will be back in action next Saturday in Minnesota with kickoff at noon.
