DeRuyter replaces Avalos as defensive coordinator, as Avalos accepted the head coaching job at his alma mater, Boise State, following two seasons running the defense in Eugene.
DeRuyter comes to Oregon after most recently working under Justin Wilcox as defensive coordinator at Cal the past four seasons. DeRuyter also was the head coach at Fresno State from 2012-16, prior to which he ran defenses at Texas A&M and Air Force, among other stops.
