REPORT: FOX Sports “Working On” Using Fake Crowd Noise for NFL Games
Fans may not be in attendance for NFL games because of the coronavirus pandemic, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be any crowd noise during the games.
Fox Sports play-by-play announcer Joe Buck said that FOX is “working on” the idea of using fake crowd noise and CGI (computer-generated imagery) virtual fans during the broadcast of games. Buck added that FOX and likely other networks are attempting to simulate a “normal viewing experience” for fans who will be watching the games on television.
It doesn’t have to be over the top. But something has to be there. Contrary to the misleading headline at SI and other places – I said FOX is WORKING on virtual fans. They are working everyday on ANYTHING to make our shows the best on TV. That’s exciting to me, and I am thankful

Apparently Sports Illustrated miscommunicated Buck’s statement, saying that FOX “will” use fake crowd noise, when in reality it is a work in progress like most things at this point.
