Why The Oregon Ducks Are On The Same Level As Ohio State Entering The Big Ten

By 750 THE GAME STAFF

The Ducks football program is gaining a lot of momentum. Numerous outlets are projecting Oregon to be a top five team next college football season. But Ohio State has spent a ton of money (reportedly) in the transfer portal after losing to Michigan for the third straight season.

Ohio State is a likely top two team in the nation when the season starts. 750 The Game contributor Spencer McLaughlin was on the Bald Faced Truth with John Canzano (Afternoons 3-6 p.m.) and says even though most people rank Ohio State ahead of Oregon, we should rethink that.

“Everywhere you look, it’s Oregon at No. 2 and Ohio State at No. 1 in the Big Ten,” McLaughlin said. “I think it’s more like 1-A and 1-B. You can put them in whatever order you’d like, but I think something you have to discuss is how does Oregon not have at least a little bit of an advantage because when they play (Ohio State) in the regular season. They play in Eugene at Autzen Stadium.”

Not only is the recruiting off the charts for the Ducks, but Oregon has also dominated the transfer portal. Looking forward to the 2024 season, the Ducks schedule has some spots that will tough, but McLaughlin says there are other more favorable elements.

“I think Oregon’s schedule is pretty solid. I think it’s mildly more difficult than it could have been because you play Ohio State and Michigan. But you miss Penn State. You miss USC. Washington and Michigan are both pull back teams from last year, so I think the schedule works out. The team is there and they just have to go execute on the field.”
