Justin Herbert May End Up Being The Ultimate Winner With Jim Harbaugh In As LA Chargers Coach

By 750 THE GAME STAFF

Jim Harbaugh is the new head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers. Oregon Ducks fans should be happy that Harbaugh is the new coach as that means Ducks legend Justin Herbert now has a legitimate proven head coach for the first time in his career.

Herbert could be the biggest benefactor of anybody as he gets an established head coach in Jim Harbaugh with a proven track record. John Canzano (Afternoons 3-6 p.m. on 750 The Game) says that is something that Herbert has never had in his career. And it could take some time to get used to playing for a coach who has the support of ownership.

“Remember: one year with Mark Helfrich — Fired,” Canzano said Wednesday on 750 The Game. “One year with Willie Taggart. Ditched. Two years with Mario Cristobal. Then off to the NFL where Anthony Lynn was his coach. Fired. Brandon Staley his coach. Fired. Interim coach. Gone. Now, Jim Harbaugh. Justin Herbert, this is what he’s done. He’s not going to know what to do with a coach who’s got some runway in front of him.”

Not only does Harbaugh have the support of ownership. But he brings in philosophies that will ultimately help Justin Herbert be a more efficient player. Canzano says Herbert has been put in bad situations thanks to coaches all the way back to his college days at Oregon. Harbaugh is going to change that.

“I saw him go to a Rose Bowl,” Canzano said. “So I know he can win big games and I know he can lead teams and I know he’s a really good player. I think the beauty of Harbaugh to the Chargers is that it won’t all be on Justin Herbert. I felt at times with the Chargers that they were leaning in that direction. It was almost like the Oregon Ducks when they leaned in his direction. We can all remember the play calling with Marcus Arroyo at coordinator. It was often, run on first down, run on second down, and on third down, Herbert just figure it out. I don’t think Harbaugh is going to do that to him.”
