Jonathan Smith has officially accepted the head coach position at Michigan State University and will leave Oregon State after six seasons at his alma mater.

Smith replaces Mel Tucker at Michigan State. Tucker was fired for cause midseason amid sexual harassment allegations.

Smith went 34-35 overall in his six seasons in Corvallis, helping revive a program in shambles in the wake of Gary Andersen’s tenure and resignation. He guided the Beavers to a 10-3 record in 2022, the program’s first ten-win season since 2006. The Beavers finished 8-4 this season after Friday’s 31-7 loss to Oregon in the Civil War. They were ranked in the AP Poll every week this regular season for the first time in program history.

More to come.
