Gary Payton II has rehab setback, to be re-evaluated in two weeks
The return of Gary Payton II will have to wait. The Trail Blazers issued a press release Friday saying Payton has experienced soreness intermittently during his rehab from a core muscle injury. Payton will be re-evaluated again in two weeks.
The Trail Blazers are 10-5 and are on top of the Western Conference. They host the Utah Jazz on Saturday night before a four-game road trip over Thanksgiving week to Milwaukee, Cleveland, New York, and Brooklyn.

PORTLAND, Ore. (November 18, 2022) – Portland Trail Blazers guard Gary Payton II continues to recover from an off-season procedure to address a core muscle injury. Throughout progressive levels of rehab in preparation to return to game play, Payton has experienced intermittent soreness. He will continue rehab in anticipation of returning to full practice and will be re-evaluated in two weeks.
