Could Scott Barnes Be A Candidate For Washington AD Opening?

By 750 The Game Staff

USC tabbed Washington’s Jennifer Cohen as the new athletic director for the Trojans, it was announced Monday.

With one position filled, another vacancy opens, as now the Big Ten-bound Huskies are in search of a new leader for their athletic department.

Jon Wilner of the Bay Area News Group talked about some names who could be candidates for the position in Seattle.

“That is now a Big Ten athletic director job,” Wilner told John Canzano on 750 The Game. “They’re going to attract a pool of candidates that may not have been interested in going to Washington as a member of the Pac-12. Now you’re on the biggest stage in the Big Ten, and you’ve got unlimited resources down the road.

“So I think they’re going to have a great pool of candidates.”

Oregon State is trying to find its footing after being left behind by the rest of the Pac-12 Conference in the latest massive shakeup to conference realignment. In the midst of that, the Beavers may need to play defense on their own athletic director as Washington begins its search.

“I think that (Washington) probably ought to look around the region,” Wilner continued. “Scott Barnes at Oregon State, a former Washington athletic department employee. Pat Chun would be an interesting decision for them, the Washington State AD, they’re going to have a lot of choices.”

Barnes was a senior associate AD at Washington from 2005-08 under Todd Turner followed by Scott Woodward.
