This week’s update:

Beavers on the rise

Oregon State men’s basketball won three straight games in the past two weeks before falling at USC on Thursday 75-62.  The Beavers got close wins over Arizona State and USC, then took down No.21 Oregon in Matthew Knight Arena in Eugene 75-64.  Ethan Thompson led the way with 19 points, while big man Warith Alatishe dominated with his 14 points, 16 rebounds and 2 blocked shots.  The Ducks were shorthanded with the absences of Chris Duarte and LJ Figueroa.

Ducks Men’s, Women’s basketball pause

The Oregon men’s basketball team announced it would go on pause for covid-19 protocols once again, resulting in the postponements of their three-game road trip to the LA schools.  On Friday, Oregon women’s basketball announced it also had to go on pause, just hours before tipping off in Salt Lake City against Utah and postponing both the Utah and Colorado matchups which would be rescheduled at a later date.

Local women’s hoops star impressing with Stanford

Cameron Brink, Beaverton native and former Mountainside high school star, continues to impress in her freshman season with Stanford.  Brink had 12 points, 14 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 blocked shots to help lead No.6 Stanford to a 71-49 victory at Washington State on Wed. Jan. 27th.  The Cardinal beat WSU again on Friday, 77-49, and improved to 14-2 on the season, 11-2 in the Pac-12, at the top of the conference.

Oregon Ducks officially welcome new defensive coordinator

The Ducks officially announced Tim DeRuyter as their new defensive coordinator this week, replacing Andy Avalos.  DeRutyer brings over thirty years coaching experience in college football with 21 as a defensive coordinator, most recently with Cal.  Keith Heyward, a defensive assistant coach with Oregon since 2017, decided to leave the program and join Cal as outside linebackers coach.
