Canzano: Pat Casey will not take LSU head coach job

Heard first on The Bald Faced Truth radio show (Weekdays 12-3pm on 750 The GAME), John Canzano reported Friday that former Oregon State head coach Pat Casey will not be taking the head coaching job at LSU.

Reports earlier this week said Casey visited Baton Rouge and was the leading candidate for the LSU job.  Current LSU coach Paul Mainieri announced in May he will retire at the end of the season.  LSU is currently in the Super Regionals of the NCAA Tournament after upsetting the Oregon Ducks in the Eugene Regional last weekend.

“I can confirm that [Casey] will not be the next coach at LSU,” Canzano said.  “Do I think he’s itching? Yea.  But I think Baton Rouge is way too far from Corvallis to give that serious run.”

Canzano explains that family was a big reason for Casey’s decision to stay in Corvallis.  Canzano also reports that Arizona State reached out to Casey for their open head coaching job, but Casey wasn’t interested because he did not want to compete against Oregon State.
