Canzano: Ionescu’s Debut Felt Like Another Landmark Moment

Saturday’s loss to Seattle certainly wasn’t the WNBA debut Sabrina Ionescu envisioned, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t important.

Our own John Canzano felt the national headlines about Ionescu’s struggles didn’t her justice.

Because what Saturday felt like to me was another landmark moment. Not for Ionescu, who shot 4 for 17, but maybe for some of the rest of us.

We watched.

We noticed.

Ionescu did that to us … But in the end, I was more focused on the variety of people who checked in to tell me they’d just done something they’d never accomplished before.

Canzano shared multiple texts, including one from a “high-ranking campus administrator at one of the state’s OTHER major universities.” Not Oregon, Canzano confirms.

I can say without hesitation that I’ve never watched an entire WNBA game, wire to wire, until this morning to catch Sabrina Ionescu’s debut,” another unsolicited text read.
