Another Disappointing Home Performance For The Timbers, Draw With NYCFC 1-1

By STEVEN VAUGHAN, 750 THE GAME

The Portland Timbers were coming off of a terrible loss to Chicago in their last home match. Three points were needed in a home match against NYCFC at Providence Park.

But the Timbers come away with another disappointing home performance and tie NYCFC.

In the first half the Timbers did a great job on the defensive end, as NYCFC couldn’t get any offense going. Then at the end of the half in the 38th minute. It was Evander with a great goal that got to the back on the net to give the Timbers a 1-0 lead heading into the half.

In the second half, the Timbers defense was not as good as it was in the first half. A goal in the 51st minute tied the match at one. Later in the half, goalie, Aljaž Ivačič, had a nice save to keep the match tied up at 1.

The Timbers had a great chance at the very end of the match as Evander had a free kick but it was saved by NYCFC goalie, Matt Freese, as he was there and Evander’s shot went just wide by about three inches.

At the end of the day. The Timbers get one point and a draw at home against NYCFC.

The next match for the Timbers is Saturday, July 1 in a road game against Minnesota. Pregame will be on 750 The Game starting at 4:30 p.m. and kickoff at 5:30 p.m.
