USA Today college football writer George Schroeder joined The Bald Faced Truth with John Canzano on Monday ahead of the first release of the college football playoff rankings on Tuesday night.

Oregon is No.7 in this week’s AP Top-25, while fellow Pac-12 foe and playoff contender Utah is No.8.

Here are some notable answers from Schroeder on Monday’s show:

On comparing Oregon and Utah as playoff contenders (3:00 mark):

“I think the better candidate is Oregon, and I don’t think there’s any question about that.  I think that’s in part because there’s more cache with being Oregon than there is in being Utah.  And that’s not fair.  It just is.  And I think sometimes that unfortunately matters, even in the committee’s mind.”

On Oregon AD Rob Mullens having to recuse himself as CFB Playoff Committee Chair when Oregon Ducks are discussed (3:20):

“It doesn’t help that Rob Mullens is going to be outside the room anytime they talk about Oregon.  That doesn’t help at all.  It could be that (Mullens and Oklahoma AD Joe Castiglione) will be cooling their heels together wishing they could get in there and talk about their teams for the large portion of the next few weeks.”

On a 12-1 Oregon or 12-1 Utah having a shot at making the playoff (3:57 mark):

“I think it’s all laid out for those two teams, if either one of them wins out.  Especially if they both win til they get to the Pac-12 title game, I think the winner at 12-1, is going to get in.  I think that’s going to happen.  And I think they would probably get the nod over, say, a 12-1 Oklahoma Big-12 Champion.”
