What People Are Saying About Oregon Quarterback Bo Nix At The Scouting Combine
By 750 THE GAME STAFF
Bo Nix has seen it all. The highs at Oregon. The lows at Auburn. All of the adversity he has faced in his college football career has led him to this point – a potential first round quarterback in the NFL Draft.
But nothing is a guarantee. Nix will be in Indianapolis for the NFL scouting combine this week showing off his arm and his athleticism.
Quarterbacks will start doing drills on Saturday at 10 a.m. and it will be important for Nix to impress.
New York Daily News reporter Antwan Staley is at the combine and he joined the Bald Faced Truth with John Canzano on Wednesday. Canzano asked Staley about the buzz he’s hearing around Nix and his draft stock.
“I was talking to some people starting at the Senior Bowl and even at the combine and I talked to a person from ESPN and they kind of compared him (Nix) to Jimmy Garoppolo,” Staley said. “He’s more of a mobile Jimmy Garoppolo, and whatever you think about Jimmy Garoppolo, he’s had a nice career, but that seems like a compliment to Bo Nix.”
Staley used to cover Nix at Oregon and remembers the moment where it all clicked for Nix.
“I think he really improved his stock coming to Oregon, and I was there when he first transferred. He had that electric spring practice and that really sent him off into motion for the next couple of years,” Staley said.
Staley says the fact that we are even considering Nix to be a first round pick says a lot about what Nix has gone through.
“Just for him to be in the conversation to be potentially drafted in the first round, I think it speaks volumes to the growth that he’s made,” he said.
Bo Nix’s draft stock has been fascinating all the way back to his Auburn days. All of the physical skills seemed to combine with the mental part of the game for Nix in his two seasons at Oregon. A team in the first round may select Nix and expect him to be the quarterback of the future.
