Criteria for the Start/Sit categories

Auto start players would be guys you don’t have to think twice about, guys that will be starters no matter the matchup. Starters are players that are most likely in your lineups unless you have auto start players that can be played in their spot instead. Sit players are players I’m not playing in lineups based on the matchup and other possible reasons.  I would not play these players in the sit category unless your options are limited. Don’t Sweat It players are players that are irrelevant at the moment, they should be nowhere near your starting lineups.

COWBOYS @ BEARS

 Auto Start:

  • Ezekiel Elliott
  • Amari Cooper
  • Allen Robinson II

Start:

  • Dak Prescott
  • Anthony Miller

Sit:

  • Michael Gallup
  • Randall Cobb
  • Jason Witten
  • Mitchell Trubisky
  • David Montgomery
  • Tarik Cohen

Don’t Sweat It:

  • Tony Pollard
  • Taylor Gabriel
  • Trey Burton

Conclusion:

One of the many tough QB matchups this week. The Cowboys are hanging by a very thin thread going into this. In a must-win game to continue the fight in the NFC East, I think the Cowboys will want to score plenty of points. If they were smart they would open up the playbook and let loose. That’s expecting too much from the franchise I know but in any case, Ezekiel Elliott and Amari Cooper will get leaned on heavily. For the Bears, Anthony Miller has been solid as of late and Allen Robinson has been a steady source of points all year long so nothing to worry about there. It’s just really weird that Mitchell Trubisky can’t follow suit while maintaining their relevance.

PANTHERS @ FALCONS

Auto Start:

  • Christian McCaffrey
  • D.J. Moore

Start:

  • Kyle Allen
  • Curtis Samuel
  • Ian Thomas (IF OLSEN IS INJURED)
  • Matt Ryan
  • Julio Jones (START IF HEALTHY)
  • Calvin Ridley

Sit:

  • Greg Olsen
  • DeVonta Freeman
  • Brian Hill
  • Russell Gage

Don’t Sweat It:

  • Jarius Wright
  • Austin Hooper (INJURED)

Conclusion:

When you look at the list above, there’s only one thing you may notice that’s out of the ordinary. Ian Thomas is most likely replacing Greg Olsen this week and I could not be more excited. For those who don’t know Ian Thomas has a phenomenal athletic profile and a guy who I was hyping up all offseason. Unfortunately for him, Olsen decided to keep playing but now the door has been opened. Against an awful Atlanta defense, Ian Thomas becomes an easy streamable option in Week 13. This one is fairly easy, you’re playing everyone in this matchup given that both defenses allow a plethora of points to teams each week.

RAVENS @ BILLS

Auto Start:

  • Lamar Jackson

Start:

  • Mark Ingram
  • Mark Andrews
  • Josh Allen
  • Devin Singletary
  • John Brown

Sit:

  • Marquise Brown
  • Frank Gore
  • Cole Beasley

Don’t Sweat It:

  • Gus Edwards
  • Willie Snead
  • Robert Foster
  • Dawson Knox

Conclusion:

This should be a good one. With the Ravens on the road and the Bills playing as well as they are, I think Baltimore is going to lose this game. Yes, Lamar Jackson has been unstoppable but the guy is still an average thrower in my book. Does it matter? No. Look at his opponent, for example, Josh Allen is in a similar boat. As long as they don’t turn the ball over and continue to run in touchdowns who cares if they only throw for 200 yards a game. In a fairly important game for AFC seeding, I’m expecting points to be scored despite the talented defenses on both teams. If there is a hole in either defense it’s the Bills run defense, so fire up Mark Ingram and the rest of the usual starters.

BENGALS @ BROWNS

Auto Start:

  • Joe Mixon
  • Nick Chubb
  • Odell Beckham Jr.
  • Jarvis Landry

Start:

  • Baker Mayfield
  • Kareem Hunt

Sit:

  • Andy Dalton
  • Tyler Boyd
  • Auden Tate
  • Tyler Eifert

Don’t Sweat It:

  • Alex Erickson
  • Rishard Higgins
  • Demetrius Harris
  • David Njoku

Conclusion:

It feels like every time I see a matchup involving the Browns I throw up in my mouth a little bit.  Well, this week threw up a little bit less. Don’t get me wrong, I still think they’re a bad team in 2019 partly because of schedule and partly because we had higher expectations. There’s no denying Jarvis Landry has been great in fantasy and against the Bengals, there’s a good possibility you get plenty of points from more than just him. Odell Beckham looks….better, Nick Chubb WILL bounce back after playing a tough Steelers run-defense, and Kareem Hunt is finding the endzone often enough to remain relevant.  For the Bengals, well Joe Mixon is the guy and every since Zac Taylor decided to change the team’s strategy and philosophy, Mixon has climbed the fantasy stairway to heaven. As for the rest of the offense, don’t even bother.

REDSKINS @ PACKERS

Auto Start:

  • Aaron Rodgers
  • Davante Adams

Start:

  • Derrius Guice
  • Terry McLaurin
  • Aaron Jones
  • Jamaal Williams

Sit:

  • Dwayne Haskins
  • Adrian Peterson
  • Chris Thompson
  • Marquez Valdes-Scantling
  • Allen Lazard
  • Geronimo Allison
  • Jimmy Graham

Don’t Sweat It:

  • Kelvin Harmon
  • Jeremy Sprinkle
  • Jake Kumerow

Conclusion:

So that Derrius Guice stiff arm was pretty great am I right? I’m staying in the flames on Guice because the Packers don’t have the defense to stop this man. In addition, Terry McLaurin is due and still remains as the only passing option for the Redskins.  For the Packers, the whole offense could tee off and to be honest I think it’s pretty straightforward. Rodgers, Adams, Jones, and Williams are the plays and no one else.

LIONS @ VIKINGS

Auto Start:

  • Kirk Cousins
  • Dalvin Cook

Start:

  • Bo Scarbrough
  • Kenny Golladay
  • Marvin Jones Jr.
  • Stefon Diggs
  • Kyle Rudolph

Sit:

  • David Blough
  • Ty Johnson
  • Danny Amendola
  • T.J. Hockensen
  • Alexander Mattison
  • Adam Thielen (START IF HEALTHY)

Don’t Sweat It:

  • Irv Smith Jr.

Conclusion:

I don’t care who’s at quarterback for the Lions, this has got to be one of the best fantasy matchups for the week.  I regret sitting Kenny Golladay last week in light of the David Blough start but I’m pivoting back towards playing the pass-catchers this week even if they are on the road.  As for the Vikings, take a deep breath everyone, Dalvin Cook is fine and plans to play.  Stefon Diggs should be in lineups and here’s a wild one for you, start Kyle Rudolph. All of a sudden he’s become a top option for Kirk Cousins every week but be ready for that to disappear once Adam Thielen comes back.

49ERS @ SAINTS

Auto Start:

  • Alvin Kamara
  • Michael Thomas

Start:

  • Raheem Mostert
  • Deebo Samuel
  • George Kittle (IF HEALTHY)

Sit:

  • Jimmy Garoppolo
  • Tevin Coleman
  • Matt Breida
  • Emmanuel Sanders
  • Drew Brees
  • Latavius Murray
  • Ted Ginn Jr.
  • Jared Cook

Don’t Sweat It:

  • Kendrick Bourne
  • Taysom Hill

Conclusion:

This on paper looks like an exciting game and yes I will be watching it.  However, are we really that interested in these offenses against these defenses when it comes to fantasy?  I’m in a scenario where I have to guess which running back for the 49ers goes off. Oddly it has been Raheem Mostert over Tevin Coleman and I’m not even really that confident in Deebo Samuel either. Let’s just say the 49ers really need George Kittle back, correction WE need George Kittle back.  For the Saints, Alvin Kamara has been solid but not phenomenal. I’ll never tell you to bench Alvin Kamara and the same goes for Michael Thomas. Although, I may have to reconsider after seeing him drop his first pass in over a year on Thanksgiving Day.

DOLPHINS @ JETS

Auto Start:

  • Sam Darnold
  • Le’Veon Bell

Start:

  • Devante Parker
  • Robby Anderson
  • Ryan Griffin

Sit:

  • REST OF DOLPHINS
  • Jamison Crowder
  • Demaryius Thomas

Don’t Sweat It:

  • Bilal Powell

Conclusion:

I talk about Devante Parker extensively in this weeks podcast and surprisingly I couldn’t have been more positive about the guy. Devante Parker is WR3 weeks 7 through 13, that is all. For the Jets, Le’Veon Bell should have a big week similar to Week 9, Sam Darnold is throwing over 30 times a game (threw almost 50 times last week) so you know you can expect multiple touchdowns, and I even like Robby Anderson and Ryan Griffin as guys who can contribute to your team this week if you’re desperate.

COLTS @ BUCCANEERS

Auto Start:

  • Jameis Winston
  • Chris Godwin
  • Mike Evans

Start:

  • Jonathon Williams (SIT IF MACK IS STARTING)

Sit:

  • Jacoby Brissett
  • Marlon Mack (START IF HEALTHY)
  • T.Y. Hilton (INJURED)
  • Nyheim Hines
  • Parris Campbell
  • Zach Pascal
  • Ronald Jones II
  • Peyton Barber

Don’t Sweat It:

  • Breshad Perriman
  • O.J. Howard

Conclusion:

I can make this one short for your convenience. The Bucs offense is one of the best offenses in the league with a mediocre QB at the helm.  That being said, it doesn’t matter if both Chris Godwin and Mike Evans reached 1000 yards in the same game. Nothing else needs to be said, you were most likely playing these studs anyways. For the Colts, well it ain’t pretty. T.Y. Hilton may be out for the year and if that’s the case I’m pretty much out on the whole offense. You most likely have better options than Jacoby Brissett and Jonathon Williams at their respective positions.

BRONCOS @ TEXANS

Auto Start:

  • Phillip Lindsay
  • Courtland Sutton
  • Deshaun Watson
  • DeAndre Hopkins

Start:

  • Drew Locke
  • Noah Fant
  • Will Fuller V

Sit:

  • Royce Freeman
  • Tim Patrick
  • Daesean Hamilton
  • Carlos Hyde
  • Duke Johnson

Don’t Sweat It:

  • Jordan Akins
  • Darren Fells

Conclusion:

For the first time in my life since Peyton Manning, I was content with the quarterback play from our QB1. Drew Locke didn’t look half bad but don’t forget, I had to sit through Brock Osweiler, Trevor Siemian, Paxton Lynch, Joe Flacco, and I could name plenty of other QB’s before Manning. Point being, Drew Locke looked better than what we’ve had and that should benefit well for Courtland Sutton and even Phillip Lindsay who is commanding more targets in the passing game. For the Texans, I’m playing all pass-catchers and avoiding the running backs. In the playoffs, we’ve got to make sure we are limiting the amount of times we have to roll the dice on split backfields. With Houston, there’s nothing appealing about having to decide between Carlos Hyde and Duke Johnson.

CHARGERS @ JAGUARS

Auto Start:

  • Keenan Allen
  • Leonard Fournette
  • D.J. Chark

Start:

  • Melvin Gordon
  • Austin Ekeler
  • Hunter Henry
  • Gardner Minshew

Sit:

  • Phillip Rivers
  • Mike Williams
  • Dede Westbrook
  • Keelan Cole
  • Chris Conley

Don’t Sweat It:

  • Ryquell Armstead

Conclusion:

I love seeing Keenan Allen find the endzone more often, it was about time they figured out that they needed to pepper him with more targets in the red zone. What’s more surprising is how Melvin Gordon and Austin Ekeler have coexisted with each other without diminishing the production. They’ve made it work so start them both. For the Jaguars, Mustache Minshew is back after Nick Foles pathetic performance the last few weeks. This should work out well for D.J. Chark who hasn’t really been the play with Nick Foles at quarterback.

TITANS @ RAIDERS

Auto Start:

  • Derrick Henry
  • Darren Waller

Start:

  • Ryan Tannehill
  • A.J. Brown
  • Jonnu Smith

Sit:

  • Corey Davis
  • Adam Humphries
  • Derek Carr
  • Josh Jacobs
  • Tyrell Williams
  • Hunter Renfrow (INJURED)
  • Zay Jones

Don’t Sweat It:

  • Dion Lewis
  • Jalen Richard
  • Foster Moreau

Conclusion:

Since everyone has been teeing up the Raiders, I think it’s only fair to play Derrick Henry, Ryan Tannehill, A.J. Brown, and Jonnu Smith this week. Realistically only Henry and Tannehill have been reliable the last few weeks but as I stated earlier, it’s the Raiders, and anyone can get a slice of that pie.  For the Raiders, Darren Waller is the only TE with three 100 plus yard games so he obviously gets the start based on pure upside. On the podcast, I told people to sit Josh Jacobs this week. The reasoning? The Raiders are vulnerable on offense and teams are figuring out that if they can contain Jacobs they contain the offense. Hence the Jets 34-3 win two weeks ago when they held Jacobs to 34 yards. I don’t blame you if you start him but you may be disappointed.

CHIEFS @ PATRIOTS

Auto Start:

  • Patrick Mahomes
  • Tyreek Hill
  • Travis Kelce
  • Julian Edelman

Start:

  • James White

Sit:

  • Darrel Williams
  • Damien Williams
  • LeSean McCoy
  • Sammy Watkins
  • Mecole Hardman
  • Tom Brady
  • Sony Michel
  • N’Keal Harry

Don’t Sweat It:

  • Rex Burkhead
  • Mohamed Sanu
  • Phillip Dorsett

Conclusion:

We finally get the rematch we’ve been waiting for and when I say rematch I’m referring to last year when the Pats barely squeaked out the win. The difference is, this game doesn’t feel like it carries the same weight and hype that last year did.  The Chiefs haven’t been as good on offense and the Patriots have been better than expected on defense so what do we do? I get it, you’re not going to bench Patrick Mahomes and I’m not going to either. The possibility that he still throws multiple touchdowns to Travis Kelce and Tyreek Hill is likely. For the Patriots, James White is my favorite play here. Not only did he pop off last week but the Chiefs have the worst defense against opposing running backs and with how poor Sony Michel has played, the Pats SHOULD go with James White in Week 14.

STEELERS @ CARDINALS

Auto Start:

  • Kyler Murray
  • Christian Kirk

Start:

  • James Washington

Sit:

  • Devlin Hodges
  • Jaylen Samuels
  • James Conner (INJURED)
  • Benny Snell Jr.
  • JuJu Smith-Schuster (START IF HEALTHY)
  • Diontae Johnson
  • Vance McDonald
  • Chase Edmonds
  • David Johnson
  • Kenyan Drake
  • Larry Fitzgerald
  • Andy Isabella

Don’t Sweat It:

  • Mason Rudolph
  • Deon Cain
  • Pharoah Cooper

Conclusion:

There are 12 players in the sit category, that’s the new high score. Sure the Cardinals defense is bad but the Steeler offense is a crapshoot.  These two teams are literally almost polar opposites. The point being, scroll down that list and try to tell me you have confidence in any of those options in the fantasy playoffs. Yeah, that’s what I thought.  For the Steelers, James Washington has been the only semi-consistent fantasy option and that’s it. Have fun trying to figure out the RB situation while you’re at it as well. For the Cardinals, you can rely on Kyler Murray and Christian Kirk because the odds are the Cardinals are playing from behind.

SEAHAWKS @ RAMS

Auto Start:

  • Russell Wilson
  • Tyler Lockett
  • Todd Gurley
  • Cooper Kupp

Start:

  • Chris Carson
  • Rashaad Penny
  • D.K. Metcalf
  • Jacob Hollister
  • Robert Woods

Sit:

  • Jared Goff
  • Brandin Cooks
  • Tyler Higbee
  • Gerald Everett (INJURED)

Don’t Sweat It:

  • Malik Turner
  • Josh Gordon
  • Malcolm Brown
  • Darrell Henderson
  • Josh Reynolds

Conclusion:

This should be a fun game even though the Seahawks are basically unstoppable. Russell Wilson is automatic, Chris Carson and Rashaad Penny are finding ways to both produce, and at some point, Tyler Lockett will come back to life right? If there’s a week for Lockett’s bounce back this is it. For the Rams, it’s been hard to figure out which wide receiver will be the guy because it’s no longer all three. Robert Woods had been the most consistent, Cooper Kupp gives you the highest ceiling, and Brandin Cooks the last two weeks only has 4 total catches, hence why he’s sitting this week against the Hawks.

GIANTS @ EAGLES

Auto Start:

  • Saquon Barkley
  • Miles Sanders
  • Zach Ertz

Start:

  • Golden Tate
  • Darius Slayton
  • Sterling Shepard

Sit:

  • Evan Engram
  • Carson Wentz
  • Jay Ajayi
  • J.J. Arcega-Whiteside
  • Dallas Goedert

Don’t Sweat It:

  • Wayne Gallman

Conclusion:

I don’t care about this game a whole lot. At this point, the Eagles beat out the Browns as the most disappointing team of 2019 after being labeled as the “deepest offense in the league”. That being said, the Giants finally have a healthy offense again.  Play the receivers, obviously play Saquon Barkley, but sit Evan Engram. It’s his first week back and re-injury is always possible with a guy like him. For the Eagles, Miles Sanders was awesome last week and that should continue as long as Jordan Howard is out and I’m going to leave Carson Wentz alone this week even though he’s going up against a weak defense.
