Washington Football Head Coach Ron Rivera Reveals Cancer Diagnosis, Plans to Continue Coaching

Washington Football Team head coach Ron Rivera revealed to ESPN’s Adam Schefter that he was diagnosed with lymph node cancer two weeks ago. He told the team on Thursday night.
Ron Rivera to ESPN on his reaction to the news that he had lymph node cancer: “I was stunned. But I was angry because I feel like I feel like I’m in best health I’ve been in.”

Ron Rivera told his team tonight that he had cancer. “Some were stunned. A bunch came up and wished me well. I said, ‘I’m going to be a little more cranky, so don’t piss me off.’ “

Rivera did say he plans to continue coaching, however Washington has a “Plan B in place,” just in case.
Schefter later clarified on Twitter that, specifically, Rivera has “squamous cell cancer of his neck.”
Squamous cell cancer is a form of skin cancer and usually non-life-threatening, according to the Mayo Clinic.
Rivera received a ton of support around Twitter from teams and players alike.
