The first half was tense for United States fans. Each opportunity that got “oh so close,” but just couldn’t quite sneak in the Netherlands net.

However, in the second 45, Team USA put two goals in, en route to their second straight Women’s World Cup Title.

In the 61st minute, former Portland Pilot, Megan Rapinoe put a penalty kick past Dutch keeper, Sari van Veenendaal, to put the U.S. up 1-0.

Just eight minutes later, Rose Lavelle snuck through the defense and buried a shot to put the U.S. Women up 2-0.

Then, after five minutes of stoppage time, Team USA was able to celebrate their fourth Women’s World Cup.

And then finally, Team USA raised the Cup.

For all her play throughout the Women’s World Cup Rapinoe also earned TWO individual honors.

Team USA is now back-to-back Women’s World Cup Champions, and the United States now has four of the eight Women’s World Cup Championships.
