The Portland Trail Blazers found themselves down early and never recovered in a 134-89 loss at home to the Memphis Grizzlies on Sunday night.
Playing without injured superstar Ja Morant, Memphis had seven players score in double-figures led by the 20 points of Jaren Jackson Jr. Jerami Grant led Portland with 20 points of his own.
The Grizzlies held the Blazers to a dismal 4-for-42 (9.5%) shooting from three-point range. Portland also shot a whopping 100 attempts from the field but made just 34 (34%).
“It was just embarrassing, to be honest with you,” head coach Chauncey Billups said following the loss.
The 45-point loss came on the heels of a 25-point defeat at Minnesota and a modest 13-point loss in San Antonio. Portland also lost earlier in the season by 23 points at home to Oklahoma City and by 36 points in the season-opener vs. Golden State.
The Blazers are 3-8 overall on the season and have lost five of the last six games.
Next, the Blazers begin group play for the 2024 NBA Cup on Tuesday night hosting the Minnesota Timberwolves at 7:00 p.m. in West Group A action. The two sides will play again at Moda Center the following night as a normal regular season game and not part of the NBA Cup.
Both games will air in the Portland area on KATU’s Charge! channel 2.2 on a digital antenna.
