Too Little Too Late, Timbers Fall 3-2 to LA Galaxy

The Portland Timbers came into Wednesday night’s match with the LA Galaxy coming off of a disappointing 4-4 Draw against Real Salt Lake the previous Sunday. Portland allowed two goals in the final four minutes of play, dropping a valuable opportunity to secure 3 points at home.

The Galaxy got the scoring started in the 15th minute when Efraín Álvarez scored his first MLS goal to give LA an early 1-0 lead.

Jeff Attinella was in goal for the Timbers on Wednesday, and there was no sign of rust early.

The score remained 1-0 Galaxy at halftime.

The scoring really got going in the second half. LA Galaxy extended their lead to 2-0 in the 50th minute, and Portland was finally able to get on the board in the 67th minute when Felipe Mora scored with his right foot from the center of the box.

LA Galaxy’s Joe Corona made it 3-1 shortly after in the 71st minute. Some controversy occurred on an off-sides call against the Timbers in the 80th minute, when Yimmi Chará tried a through ball, but Jeremy Ebobisse is caught with the off-sides.

Portland would later score in the 92nd minute, when  Diego Valeri connected on a right footed shot from a difficult angle on the left to the bottom left corner of the net.

Looking back, the goal could have been the equalizer for the Timbers.

Portland could not score in the final minutes, as the final score ended with the Timbers falling to the Galaxy 3-2. Timbers have no failed to get a win in three consecutive home matches.
