Tokyo Olympics Officially Receive New Dates in 2021
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced the 2020 Summer Olympics will take place exactly one year after they were scheduled to in 2020.
Tokyo’s now 2021 Olympics will begin July 24 and run through Aug. 8 2021, while the Paralympics will start on Aug. 23 and wrap up on Sept. 5 2021.
This decision was “based on three main considerations,” according to Olympic.org.
Those three considerations are: to protect the health of the athletes and everyone involved, and to support the containment of the COVID-19 virus; to safeguard the interests of the athletes and of Olympic sport; and the global international sports calendar.
Among the global international sports “considerations” included the International Basketball Federation (FIBA).
