Timbers Win 2nd in a Row, Beat NYCFC 1-0
Sebastian Blanco scored in the 14th minute and the Timbers defense stifled the NYCFC attack as Portland got a 1-0 win in Yankee Stadium.
New York City FC entered Sunday’s game riding a 12-game unbeaten streak in MLS play, the longest unbeaten streak in their club’s history. But since acquiring Brian Fernandez, the Timbers have been on a roll as they became the first MLS team to beat NYCFC at Yankee Stadium this season.
At the halftime point of the season, Portland, who started the year with 12 straight games on the road, due to construction at Providence Park, sits in ninth place in the Western Conference standings, four points below the red line.
Up next, they have a US Open Cup match against LAFC in Los Angeles on Wednesday night.
