Timbers Win First Game of the Year, Beat Columbus 3-1
It took seven matches, but Portland finally got their first win of the season with a 3-1 win over former coach Caleb Porter and Columbus Crew. Larrys Mabiala got the Timbers on the board first with a header goal off a beautiful cross from Diego Valeri. It was the first time since the first match of the season where the Timbers struck first.
Just three minutes later, a cross from Sebastian Blanco was put in the back of the net by the left foot of Jeremy Ebobisse. The Timbers held on from there as they survived attacking wave after wave from Columbus. Portland was able to put the nail in the coffin with a goal from Jorge Moreira in the 91st minute. It was his first goal as a Timber.
Hopefully the Timbers can ride the momentum from this win and turnaround their season. Up next, they travel to Toronto to take on Toronto FC, next Saturday at noon.
