Timbers Struggles In Minnesota Continue
Portland may have scored first Saturday night but Minnesota came roaring back to defeat the Timbers 2-1 at Allianz Field. Portland Head Coach Giovanni Savarese continues to struggle against the Loons, not once grabbing a point at Minnesota. Portland’s disappointing result marks the end of a positive trend, Portland was a perfect 5-0-0 when scoring first in affairs this season but that ended Saturday night.
Portland’s goal came from the same man who won it Wednesday against LAFC, Felipe Mora:
The beautiful header came in the 10th minute but despite being down 1-0, the game was being controlled by the home squad. Portland’s defense was admirable but come the final 15 minutes of the match Minnesota quickly became clinical in front of net.
First, Chase Gasper accurately placed a header in the bottom corner to tie it up. Soon after in the 84th minute, Hassani Dotson played a ball from deep to Robin Lod who the winner past Alijaz Ivacic.
Minnesota’s victory takes them to 21 points on the campaign and notably now over Portland in the standings. Portland sits at 19 points narrowly holding onto the final playoff spot.
The Timbers can get some rest but stay on the road facing the Galaxy next Friday.
