The Portland Timbers road woes continued on Sunday afternoon, suffering a 3-0 loss at FC Cincinnati in the home debut of the expansion club at Nippert Stadium.

Former Timbers great Fanendo Adi had to leave the game with injury in the second half in his home debut for his new side, but that was the only blemish on an otherwise glorious home opener for the victors.

The Timbers, meanwhile, have given up 10 goals in their three matches this season.  Goalkeeper Jeff Attinella was routinely peppered with shots from close range.  Eight of the ten goals Attinella has allowed have come from inside the six-yard box this season.

Portland played without Diego Chara, who earned a soft red card the previous match against Los Angeles FC.  Larrys Mabiala earned a red card in Sunday’s loss to Cincinnati and will have to miss Portland’s next match.

The FC Cincinnati goal scorers were Kendal Waston (15′), Allan Cruz (61′) and Mathieu Deplagne (63′).  Cincy outshot Portland 17-10 for the game and had the 7-3 edge in shots on frame.

The Timbers will have a full week off to recover at home before heading back on the road for their fourth of 12 straight games away from home to open the 2019 season.

Portland visits LA Galaxy on Sunday, March 31st, pregame at 5pm on 1029/750 The Game and 1029TheGame.com.
