Portland Timbers goalkeeper Aljaz Ivacic has been named to the MLS Team of the Matchday for Week 7 following his 8-save performance in a 1-0 defeat at Vancouver Whitecaps.
The performance was the second-best in Ivacic’s career in total saves, having made nine in a game last season at Toronto FC.
Ivacic has already made 16 saves in just 3 games played so far this season after missing the beginning of the season due to injury.
Ivacic was named to MLS Team of the Week four times in 2022.
The Portland Timbers are off to another slow start to the 2023 campaign, with just one victory in their first seven matches played. That win came in the season-opener on Feb. 28th vs Sporting Kansas City. Portland has since lost four games and tied two others. Their five points through seven games has them in 12th place in the Western Conference standings.
Next up, another Cascadia rival comes to town as Seattle Sounders pay a visit to Providence Park on Saturday, April 15th. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. with pregame starting at 6:30 p.m. on 750 The Game.
Seattle is currently atop the conference with 16 points through 7 games played (5 wins, 1 loss, 1 draw). They have won three straight matches by a combined score of 7-2.
