Timbers Come From Behind For Massive 2-1 Win Over SKC
What a match. Down 12 players, the Timbers found a way to come back from a 0-1 deficit to beat Sporting KC 2-1 for a crucial 3 points as the Western Conference playoff race begins to heat up.
In the 65th minute Kansas City mid fielder, Benny Feilhaber curved an incredible shot from distance into the corner of the net to give Kansas City a 1-0 lead. It seemed like that goal took the life out of the Timbers and they were going to drop yet another game at Providence Park. But the Timbers fought back in the 83rd minute when Ebobisse tapped in a cross from Diego Chara following a Portland counter attack. In stoppage time, Brian Fernandez handed Portland the win when he headed in a cross from Valeri that sent Providence Park into an absolute frenzy.
The Timbers only had 16 players available for Saturday’s game, due to injuries and international duty. Nine Timbers were sidelined with injuries Saturday, while three Portland players missed the game due to international duty.
With the win, the Timbers(13-11-4, 43 points) jumped back above the red line into sixth place in the Western Conference standings with six games left in the regular season.
