Timbers blow out Houston, 4-0
It was a party in Providence Park tonight as the Timbers dominated the Houston Dynamo, 4-0. It was the Timbers third win in a row across all competitions, and their first MLS win at the newly renovated Providence Park.
Marvin Loria, making his MLS debut, got the start in place of Sebastian Blanco and he took full advantage of the opportunity. Loria scored the first goal of the evening on a perfectly executed counter attack by the Timbers in the 40th minute. Loria also drew a penalty kick in the second half, which Diego Valeri put in the back of the net and the rout was on. Brian Fernandez scored just two minutes later to make it 3-0 Timbers. It was Fernandez’s 8th goal in his first 6 matches as a Timber. He also tied a MLS record, scoring 4 goals in his first 4 MLS matches. He has a chance to break the record in Portland’s next match. Jeremy Ebobisse put the exclamation point on the night, curling a ball into the side net to make it 4-0 Timbers.
Portland now has 17 points on the season as they continue to climb the MLS rankings after a slow start to the season. Up next, they head to Montreal for a Wednesday night game against the Impact. Pregame coverage starts at 3:30pm on 102.9/750 The Game.
