Surging Timbers Shut Out Earthquakes 3-0

Despite the pouring rain, the Portland Timbers are in a great mood tonight.

Behind a 3-0 shutout of the San Jose Earthquakes, they’ve grabbed a share of 1st place in the Western Conference, following the Seattle Sounders loss to LAFC.

Conditions on the pitch were soggy, which led to a plodding, scoreless first half. But Jarosław Niezgoda kicked off the second half with a pair of goals in the first seven minutes of action:

The clean sheet was the Timbers’ 5th consecutive win.
