Almost three years ago Ryan Shazier’s life changed forever. The Pittsburgh linebacker went headfirst into Josh Malone, and his playing career ended. Wednesday, he announced his retirement from professional football.
Dec. 4, 2017 Shazier collapsed after attempting to tackle Malone. He grabbed for his back and rolled onto his side. Unable to move his legs.
Shazier was rushed to a University of Cincinnati hospital while his teammates beat the Bengals.
He underwent spinal stabilization surgery days later. However, Shazier wouldn’t gain movement in his legs for a few months (Feb. 2018).
He posted these two videos to announce his decision.
