This is the first of the final eleven matches of the MLS regular season. Portland and Houston will meet again on Decision Day in the regular season finale, Oct. 21st in Portland.
The Timbers enter the match in 12th place in the Western Conference standings with 26 points through 23 matches. Houston is 9th in the West with 29 points in the same span.
This year’s expanded playoff format features the 9-seed visiting the 8-seed for a single-elimination Wild Card game in each conference. That is followed by best-of-three round one with eight teams in each conference.
