The Seahawks confirmed Friday that starting center Connor Williams has retired from the NFL at age 27. Williams had started each of Seattle’s nine games this season after arriving late in training camp as a free-agent signing.

Williams was coming off offseason knee surgery. He and quarterback Geno Smith had multiple snap exchange issues under center and in shotgun in recent weeks.

Backup second-year player Olu Oluwatimi takes over at center for the Seahawks.

The 4-5 Seahawks visit the 5-4 49ers on Sunday.
