Scott Brooks Finalizing Deal to Join Trail Blazers, Become Top Assistant on Billups’ Staff

The former Washington Wizards coach who spent five seasons with the team, leading the Wizards to the playoffs three times, is finalizing a deal to join the Trail Blazers’ coaching staff, sources have told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Former Wizards coach Scott Brooks is finalizing a deal with Portland to become Chauncey Billups’ top assistant coach, sources tell ESPN. That’s a significant addition for Billups as he builds his new staff.

In Chauncey Billups’ introductory press conference with Portland, he spoke about his desire to bring on as much experience as possible to his coaching staff. Brooks had interviewed for a spot on Frank Vogel’s staff with the Lakers the week prior, but ultimately ended up landing in Portland.
