Sabrina Ionescu Named Unanimous AP Women’s Basketball Player of the Year

Unanimous Associated Press First Team last week. Unanimous AP Women’s Basketball Player of the Year this week.

Sabrina Ionescu on Monday became just the second player to be unanimously named the AP Player of the Year. The first was UConn star Breanna Stewart.

“That’s pretty crazy. Someone I look up to and have a good relationship with,” Ionescu told the AP. “To be in that class with her is an honor.”

The Oregon senior is only the eighth player to earn three AP All-American honors three times, and the only college basketball player (man or woman) to accumulate 2,000 points, 1,000 assists and 1,000 rebounds.

In case you forgot, Team USA came to Eugene before the season started. They left with just their second loss ever to a college team. Ionescu went for 30 points and seven assists.
