Rip Hamilton: Chauncey Billups wants Blazers job, Blazers should hire him

Chauncey Billups has emerged as a top candidate to be the next head coach of the Trail Blazers, partly due to an endorsement of sorts from Damian Lillard.

Add another endorsement to his name, this time from one of Billups’ former teammates, Rip Hamilton.

Hamilton and Billups played together in Detroit for all of Billups near seven seasons.  TMZ Sports tracked down Hamilton in video footage released Tuesday and asked him about the connection between Billups and the Blazers head coach vacancy.

“Me and Chauncey was actually just talking,” Hamilton told TMZ.  When asked if Billups wants the job in Portland, Hamilton said yes.

“Chauncey wants to coach right now, hopefully he gets his opportunity.  Chauncey Billups is one of the best leaders that I’ve ever been around.  I think he’ll be great for whoever gets him.”
