Eduardo Rodriguez pitched a gem for the Red Sox while the Boston offense buried the Mariners early.

Erik Swanson looked good early, but in the third inning the wheels fell off. Mariner relievers were not much better, but the damage was done.

Both starting pitchers cruised through the first two innings. Swanson nearly matched Rodriguez but with two outs and an 0-2 count in the third inning, Mookie Betts bounced a chopper into centerfield. 1-0 Red Sox.

To make matters worse, Mitch Moreland smashed a home run out to center two batters later. 4-0 Boston.

The next inning, Rafeal Devers hit a solo lead off home run to start the fourth. 5-0 Red Sox.

Moreland continued to be a thorn in Swanson’s side with a two-out RBI double in the fifth. 6-0 Boston.

Devers picked up his second RBI with a two-out single in the fifth. 7-0 Red Sox.

The Boston home run derby continued in the sixth. Andrew Benintendi clocked his shot to right field. 8-0 Boston.

Xander Bogaerts hadn’t really done anything yet, and he decided to change that with an RBI double. 9-0 Red Sox.

Bogaerts came home on the RBI ground out from Michael Chavis. 10-0 Boston.

Finally in the eighth, the Mariners got on the board. Domingo Santana tripled and Edwin Encarnacion brought him home. 10-1 Red Sox.

J.P. Crawford made his Seattle Mariners debut at shortstop, and made an error in the eighth gifting Boston another run, 11-1.

The Red Sox scored yet another run on Bogaerts RBI ground out. 12-1 Red Sox.

Then, Devers doubled home two more runs. 14-1 Boston.

Mercifully, the game ended after four Mariner batters in the ninth. 14-1, Red Sox win.

Tonight was the seventh time the M’s have given up 10-plus runs, which is the most in MLB.
