Reaction to Virginia’s wild 63-62 over Auburn to advance to first-ever National Championship Game
Another big game on a national stage came down to a controversial call from the referees.
With the ball out of bounds and trailing 62-60, Virginia had one last shot to either force overtime or take the lead on Auburn, who had just put together a massive 15-3 run to take the late lead.
The inbound pass came into Virginia’s Kyle Guy, who turned around with a 3-pointer from the corner. The shot missed, but Guy was bailed out on a late whistle from the official nearest to the play, ruling that Auburn’s Bryce Brown ran into Guy on his descent from the jump shot.

Guy calmly stepped to the free-throw line and came through big for the Hoos with all three free-throws.
6 points in 8 seconds 😱

In the final 8 seconds, Auburn’s Jared Harper missed a free throw, the refs missed a double-dribble by Virginia’s Ty Jerome, Auburn was called for a foul on a 3-pointer, and Kyle Guy made 3 free throws for the win. That is just an incredible sequence of (bad) events for Auburn. https://t.co/f4vQAh94o6
