750 The Game Staff
The Portland Timbers claimed a critical three points from their rival Seattle Sounders on Saturday night at Providence Park with a 1-0 victory.
Playing without their top two leading goal scorers in Felipe Mora (red card suspension) and Jonathan Rodriguez (yellow card accumulation), Portland got the game’s lone goal from Juan David Mosquera in the 55th minute. Evander notched his team-best 16th assists of the MLS season.
The Timbers rise a spot in the Western Conference standings to sixth with seven games to play. Their 40 points are one shy of fifth-place Vancouver, and tied with seventh-place Houston and eighth-place Seattle. Portland has the tiebreak advantage with those teams on goal differential.
Portland has two weeks off before next taking the pitch Sept. 14th at Colorado Rapids.
