Portland Timbers Legend Diego Valeri To Be Inducted Into Club’s Ring Of Honor July 15th

Only four players in the history of the Portland Timbers have been placed in the club’s Ring of Honor.

On July 15th, there will be a fifth.

It is former MLS MVP, Diego Valeri.

The club made the announcement on Thursday. The induction will take place before Portland’s home contest against Columbus Crew SC on July 15th.

Valeri joins Clive Charles, John Bain, Jimmy Conway, Mick Hoban, and Timber Jim in the club’s Ring of Honor.

Valeri came to the Timbers in 2013. He played nine seasons in Portland and ranks at or close to the top in many of the club’s all-time categories. Valeri is the club leader in goals scored with 86, assists with 91, and points with 263. He also ranks second in team history in games played with 262 and starts with 230.

When Valeri won the MVP in 2017 he had a team-record 21 goals and 11 assists, while also recording a goal in nine consecutive matches — an MLS record at the time. He is the only player in league history to win Newcomer of the Year, regular season MVP and MLS Cup MVP. He was the first player in Timbers history to earn MLS Cup MVP honors after scoring in Portland’s 2-1 win against Columbus Crew SC in the 2015 MLS Cup, helping the club secure its first MLS Cup trophy.

Valeri was a five-time MLS all-star selection and is one of three players in the history of the league to record 80 goals and 80 assists in their career.

He is one of the best to ever do it in MLS, and now he will be recognized forever in Soccer City USA.
