Portland Timbers Get Their Best Win Of The Season, Beating St. Louis City FC 2-1

By 750 THE GAME STAFF

The Portland Timbers have been injured and struggled all season long. But on Saturday night, the Timbers played like we thought they would play all season long.

The Timbers took on St. Louis City FC who was the #1 team in the Western Conference. And the Timbers came away with a big win 2-1 over St. Louis FC.

The first half didn’t have to many opportunities as the two squads entered the half at 0-0. St Louis had zero shots on goal in the first thanks to a suffocating Portland defense.

The scoring picked up in the second half. The Timbers started the scoring with a PK that was converted by their big money man, Evander. Evander made it look easy and he easily poked it by the goalkeeper.

St. Louis came back as they picked up the pace and put a lot of pressure on the Timbers. A beautiful goal by Celio Pompeu who had just came off the bench and scored his first career MLS goal.

The Timbers looked and reacted like a different team on Saturday as they answered the goal with a goal of thier own. Santiago Moreno dribbled in between the City defense and laid if off for Yimmi Charra who banged it in the back of the goal to give the Timbers the lead.

Portland with a huge win and possibly their best win of the season. The Timbers next match will be next Saturday taking on Austin from Providence Park. Pregame coverage on 750 The Game starts at 6:30 p.m. with kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
