Portland Timbers acquire Brazilian Attacking Winger Antony from FC Arouca in Portugal

The Portland Timbers added a key attacking piece on Wednesday, officially announcing the acquisition of Brazilian winger Antony from Portuguese side FC Arouca.
The 21-year-old Antony debuted as a professional in March 2021 in his native Brazil with Joinville Esporte Clube. He was loaned to Brazilian top flight club Corinthians Paulista and eventually to Liga Portugal side FC Arouca in 2021.
With FC Arouca, Antony has logged 66 appearances, scoring 8 goals and tallying 3 assists in his three seasons.
Antony will be under contract with the Timbers through the 2026 season with a club option for 2027, per the club. His acquisition is pending a physical and receipt of his International Transfer Certificate and P-1 visa.
He will occupy an international roster slot and a U22 initiative slot.
Antony, whose full name is Antony Alves Santos, turns 22 on Sept. 8th.
The Timbers continue their run in the inaugural League’s Cup this Friday against Liga MX power CF Monterrey. Pregame is at 6:00 p.m. with kickoff at 7:00 p.m. on 750 The Game.
Portland returns to MLS regular season play on Sun. Aug. 20th against the Houston Dynamo. The Timbers have eleven matches remaining, sitting 12th in the Western Conference standings on 26 points. Nine teams advance to postseason play in the expanded playoff format.
