Portland Pickles: Introducing the Wild Wild West League

From Portland Pickles “Dillon’s Digest”:

PORTLAND, Ore. (June 11th, 2020) — Evoking baseball’s barnstorming traditions of yesteryear, the innovative Wild Wild West League will both honor tradition and reach to the future, ultimately crowning a champion among the Portland area’s top independent summer collegiate baseball teams.

Participating teams include the Portland Pickles, West Linn Knights, Gresham GreyWolves and Portland Gherkins. Weekend tournaments to include additional local teams.

The league will kick off in July, with play scheduled to conclude in August. All games will be broadcast for free courtesy of Adventist Health Portland on Facebook Live and YouTube Live. Each broadcast will feature special guest commentators including Pickle owner Jon Ryan and Sarah Colonna.  Fans will not be allowed on site until state and local agencies deem it safe.

“We are so excited to finally see some baseball,” said Pickles co-owner and president Alan Miller. “This is an amazing opportunity for us to try something different and experiment with broadcast engagement in new ways.”

Each game will also be equipped with Synergy digital video cameras, allowing players, coaches, and scouts to monitor players and follow their progress throughout the league.

“We can’t wait to show off the talent we’ve acquired this year and bring live sports back into the public domain,” said Pickles manager Justin Barchus.

Schedules, Rosters and Partners will be announced in the coming weeks.

“I’m really excited about the potential of this league to help to develop & foster the growth of many aspiring baseball players.  These have been challenging times for all, and the ability to again provide an environment for these young student-athletes should be paramount as our State, and our Country, get back to work, and get back to school.  This is not just about the sport of baseball, it is much bigger than that.” said Brooke Knight, head coach of the West Linn Knights.
