Oregon Women Claim 2nd Straight PAC-12 Title, Beat ASU 66-59
Sabrina Ionescu hit a clutch mid-range jumper with 20 seconds to go to give the Ducks a five point lead to all but seal their 66-59 win over Arizona State. With the win, Oregon is now back-to-back outright PAC-12 champions for the first time in program history. The 6th ranked Ducks were led by Sabrina, who finished with 19 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists. Oregon will go into this weeks PAC-12 tournament in Las Vegas with the #1 seed and a 1st round bye. If they win that tournament, they will all but seal a #1 seed for the NCAA tournament.
The Ducks were in a back-and-forth affair all day today with the 21st ranked Sun Devils. Oregon held a 4 point lead going into the half, but after being outscored 21-13 in the 3rd they needed a big 4th quarter to get the win. That is exactly what they got, as the Ducks outscored the Sun Devils 20-9 in the decisive 4th quarter.
Senior guard Maite Cazorla shot 7-10 from the field to finish with 17 points, while Satu Sabally added 18 points and 6 rebounds.
In the loss, Arizona State forward Kianna Ibis, was a problem all day finishing with 23 points and 8 rebounds. Only one other Sun Devil scored in double figures.
After back-to-back losses just a week ago, the Ducks have bounced back for 3 straight wins to finish the regular season 27-3 and 16-2 in conference. This is their 4th PAC-12 championship in program history.
