Kelly Graves and the Oregon Ducks women’s basketball team got a hard-fought upset win at home Sunday over 12th-ranked Baylor, 76-74 in front of 6, 372 fans inside Matthew Knight Arena.
The victory for Oregon snapped a streak of 14 straight losses against ranked opponents.
Deja Kelly, a grad transfer from North Carolina, led the Ducks with 20 points including the game-tying bucket with 1:06 remaining. The Ducks got a stop on defense, then took the lead with 22 seconds left on a layup by Elisa Mevius and held on defense again to secure the win.
Oregon starts the season 3-0 for the tenth straight season under Kelly Graves.
“I couldn’t be more thrilled,” Graves said after the game. “We played so, so well for a good portion of that game and lost that big lead, but to come back and make the plays down the stretch like we did, shows a lot of character. Just really proud of our team.”
The Ducks led 64-48 early in the fourth quarter before Baylor rallied all the way back to take a lead of their own.
Oregon will next be in action Tuesday against North Texas in a game that will top off at 11:00 a.m. on B1G+.
