NBA Trade Deadline Finishes With Flurry of Moves

The NBA trade deadline came and went with a flurry of deals in the final 36 hours.

  • The Portland Trail Blazers send Skal Labissiere and $2 million cash to Atlanta for a protected second round pick – A clear effort for Portland to save on the luxury tax.
  • LA Clippers, NY Knicks and Washington Wizards pull off three-team trade that puts Marcus Morris and Isaiah Thomas in LA with the Clippers. Jerome Robinson is headed to the Wizards, while Moe Harkless and a 2020 first-round pick go to the Knicks.
  • Detroit trade Andre Drummond to Cleveland for Jon Henson, Brandon Knight and a future second-round pick (lesser of Golden State or Cleveland’s 2023 pick).
  • Philadelphia send James Ennis to Orlando for a second-round pick.
  • The Memphis Grizzlies executed a trade with the Miami Heat, sending Andre Iguodala, Solomon Hill and Jae Crowder to Miami in exchange for Justise Winslow, Dion Waiters and James Johnson. Minnesota is joining the deal and will receive James Johnson in exchange for Gorgui Dieng. The deal makes sense for Memphis – with Iggy holding out all season, the Grizzlies essentially acquired a solid defender in Winslow and Waiters’ scoring punch for a pair of reserves. Heat President Pat Riley is clearly making an NBA Finals push with the trade. He is also rumored to be interested in extracting Danilo Gallinari from the Thunder.
  • A long-rumored trade between the Warriors and Timberwolves went down, with Golden State sending D’Angelo Russell to Minnesota for Andrew Wiggins and a couple of draft picks. If Wiggins can get his shot selection in line, the Warriors will likely move right back into contender status next season.
  • The Timberwolves also made a trade on Wednesday, sending Robert Covington to the Rockets as part of a four-team deal that sent Clint Capela to the Hawks:
    • Minnesota also acquires Atlanta’s Evan Turner and Denver’s Jarred Vanderbilt.
    • Denver acquires Minnesota guard Shabazz Napier, forward Keita Bates-Diop, forward Noah Vonleh and injured guard Gerald Green.
    • Denver then flipped Shabazz Napier for Washington’s Jordan McRae
    • Atlanta acquires Houston center Nene Hilario.
    • Houston also receives Jordan Bell from Minnesota and an Atlanta 2024 second-round pick via the Golden State Warriors.
  • The Rockets also turned around and dealt Bell to the Grizzlies in exchange for Bruno Caboclo. Bell will be reunited with his former Oregon Ducks teammate Dillon Brooks.
